FAQ’s

What Tests Can I Order?
There are no restrictions on what tests you can order providing you nominate your patients general practitioner on the request form to receive a copy of the pathology results. Additionally, as long as the IMVS performs the test you require, it will be available for you to order. If a test you wish to order is not on this list please contact Medvet and we will supply you a quote for this test.

Why do I Have to Nominate a General Practitioner to Receive a Copy of the Pathology Results?
Many of the tests you may order will require expert interpretation. Not all naturopaths will have the necessary expertise to do this. To avoid professional liability issues it has been decided that any pathology request ordered by a Naturopath or natural medicine practitioner must nominate a GP to receive a copy of the results. Any pathology referral received from a Naturopath without a copy request going to a GP will not be accepted.

My Patient Does Not Have A GP. What Can I Do?
Your patient must find a GP or your clinic needs to have an arrangement with a GP to review results. If a GP is not nominated to receive a copy of the pathology results your request for testing will not be accepted.

Can My Pathology Requests be Bulk Billed?
No. Currently only accredited Doctors with provider numbers have the ability to bulk bill pathology referrals.

What is the Billing Process?
Medvet will send an account to your clinic once the service has been rendered. Invoices are sent monthly. The pathology services described in the account will be charged to your clinic and not to your patient. Therefore the clinic will be responsible for paying the account and recouping the cost of pathology from the patient.

Does Medvet Charge a Collection Fee?
No. Medvet utilises the IMVS laboratories and collection centres to process all pathology requests. Since the IMVS is owned by the state Government, Medvet is prohibited by law from charging a collection fee. If at any point in the future any part of the IMVS is privatised then a collection fee may be charged. The IMVS was created by the state government in 1938.

Do Certain Tests Have Special Requirements?
Yes. Many tests require patients to fast or abstain from eating certain food groups. Unless you are absolutely certain of any specific requirements always check with Medvet prior to ordering a pathology test.

Does Medvet Offer Any Education in Relation to Ordering and Interpreting Pathology Results?
Yes we are dedicated to ongoing education and training and as such we run regular training opportunities. For further details please contact Medvet info@medvet.com.au
