Course in Workplace Drug Testing
The Course in Workplace Drug Testing complies with the requirements of a ‘Collector’ and ‘Technician’ as defined by Australian Standards AS 4760:2006 and AS/NZS 4308:2008.
The course consists of the following modules:
- Alcohol and other drugs in the workplace
- The effect of alcohol and other drugs
- Preparing for collection of specimen
- Performing screening procedure
- Performing post collection procedures ‘chain of custody’
- Labelling and storing specimens for transportation
The course is conducted nationally by our team of expert trainers who have current industry experience in conducting drug and alcohol screening and hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Qualification and Recognition
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for:
- HLTPAT304C ‘Collect pathology specimens other than blood’ and
- HLTPAT410C ‘Collect pathology specimens other than blood for specialised testing’
These are two Competency Standards Codes from the HLT7 Health Training Package.
Further, Medvet’s Course in Workplace Drug Testing training and education materials are endorsed for compliance and interpretation to AS/NZS 4308:2008, AS 4760:2006 and AS 3547:1997 by SAI Global, Australian distributor of the Standards.
Assessment
Competency is assessed through a combination of practical application and demonstration of skills, written assessments, scenarios and role plays.
The course requires successful completion of the following:
- Pre-course workbook which needs to be completed before attending the course.
- Participant workbook consisting of general questions that complement the presentation including multiple choice questions and the completion of a drug test form and an alcohol breath test form.
- Scenario questions surrounding the breath alcohol, oral fluid and urine testing procedure and chain of custody process are also included.
- Post-course self-assessment workbook.
- Practical assessments performed on the day including:
- Performing an initial and confirmatory breath alcohol test using a breathalyser
- Performing an oral fluid specimen collection, on-site screen and preparing the sample for dispatch to the laboratory (chain of custody)
- Performing a urine specimen collection, on-site screen and preparing the sample for dispatch to the laboratory (chain of custody procedure)
Course Length and Delivery
This is a one day training course inclusive of lunch and refreshments. Training can be delivered throughout Australia.
We are also able to deliver training at your worksite, subject to minimum number requirements.
Fee
The fee per participant is $650*.
*GST is not applicable for RTO courses and will not be charged to individuals or companies.
