Medical Research commercialisation

Medical researchers are constantly generating novel solutions with the potential for significant impact in the community. Medvet encourages you to consider commercialising your intellectual property.

What is commercialisation?

Commercialisation may take many forms, including licensing or assignment of rights to information or technologies; the creation of a spin off company to take promising innovations to market; or even the sale of products. It may also result from research collaborations between Medvet Laboratories and an industry partner or government agency.

Who manages commercialisation at Medvet Laboratories?

Medvet has a dedicated team of individuals to manage all aspects of IP commercialisation.  Medvet’s commercial development team will assist you in assessing, protecting, pitching and successfully commercialising opportunities within the requirements of the relevant medical policies and practices.

What is the first step in commercialisation?

If you have an invention and you believe it has commercial application, please contact one of our team members.  A key first step in the process is a basic outline of the opportunity as you perceive it.

Our team will then perform a basic assessment of the opportunity to assess the best path for further development. We will assess the opportunity for its state of maturity and where it sits in the broader market. Other considerations include the scale of the potential impact of successful adoption of the technology, risk and regulatory issues, funding required and intellectual property issues.

We will then respond to you and let you know how we propose to progress the opportunity. This may take a variety of forms, including one or more of the following:

  • A recommendation for further development prior to commercialisation
  • Intellectual property protection
  • Suggestion of contract research opportunities that may be of interest
  • Indication of potential funding sources (grant, corporate, venture capital)
  • A proposal to license or assign the technology or to set up a spin off company

Every opportunity is different and needs to be considered on its own merits. We are experienced in handling a broad range of opportunities and have commercial managers responsible for different portfolios.
