On-site & Laboratory Based Urine Testing

Both of these methods are valid and provide a deterrent for drug abuse. The format of testing you choose for the initial screening test will depend on your circumstances and the advantages that each form of testing offers you.

We have a broad range of on-site kits currently being utilised in industries as diverse as mining, aviation, food and general manufacturing, transport, construction and medical. We offer consultation and client training and policy development to AS 4308:2008, and full laboratory back-up for GC/MS confirmations and scientific advice.

Our collectors are chosen and trained to be both sensitive and professional in specimen collection and the testing process.

As well as providing a visible deterrent to drug abuse, the speed of results gained through an on-site test means that action can be taken immediately, thereby reducing the risk of an incident.  Positive tests are sent to the laboratory for GC/MS confirmation. Results are always treated in the strictest confidence.

The Australian/New Zealand Standard 4308:2008

This Standard outlines the procedures for the collection, detection and quantitation of drugs of abuse in urine. Any company that is considering implementing a urine drug testing regime should be familiar with this standard.

It can be purchased at www.standards.com.au.

Laboratory Services

Medvet Laboratories operates a Toxicology Laboratory located at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science (IMVS) in Adelaide, Australia. The laboratory is run by highly trained scientists, who carry out all tests according with the Australian Standard 4308:2001. The laboratory is NATA accredited.

The IMVS Toxicology Laboratory provides services in drugs of abuse testing in urine samples. Laboratory screens can be performed on urine samples (as opposed to on-site screens), followed by GC/MS confirmation as per the Australian Standard 4308. The confirmation is the 'legal' basis of the test and is recognised as a scientifically valid method.

It allows the precise drug to be identified (as opposed to a drug 'group' in on-site screening) and quantified so that levels can be compared to the Australian Standard's cut off levels.

Reliable and confidential reports indicating a positive or negative result are then sent out, generally to one specific contact person within your company.
